So the operative standard is the federal one, enforced by Pennsylvania Department of Health surveyors: equipment kept in safe operating condition under CMS F908, and patient care-related electrical equipment tested under NFPA 99 (2012), verified through survey tag K0921 — annually, before first use, and after any repair or modification.
One Pennsylvania-specific wrinkle worth knowing: outpatient dialysis facilities, a large and fast-growing segment across Western PA, are surveyed against the federal ESRD Conditions for Coverage (42 CFR Part 494), which require water-treatment monitoring and equipment maintained per the manufacturer's recommendations.
